Surface Preparation — The Foundation of Every Successful Resin Floor

Every resin flooring failure we're called to repair comes back to one of three things — the wrong system for the traffic, moisture through an untested slab, or inadequate surface preparation. F Wilding Ltd operates a full fleet of preparation plant nationwide — diamond grinders, shot blasters, planers, scabblers and moisture-testing kit — so the substrate the resin sits on is fit to hold it.

What is surface preparation?

Surface preparation is the mechanical treatment of a concrete substrate before resin installation: removing laitance, coatings and contamination; profiling the surface to the CSP required by the specified resin; repairing spalls, cracks and joints; and confirming moisture content is within limits. We match the prep method to the substrate, the resin system, and the site conditions.

Where and when we use it

Every internal resin flooring installation — new-build slabs, existing floors being refurbished, floors with failed coatings, and any substrate where the resin system needs the correct CSP to bond.

Key benefits

What makes surface preparation the right prep method for the right job:

  • Full plant range — grinders, shot blasters, planers, scabblers
  • Dust-extracted where required
  • CSP matched to specified resin system
  • Concrete repairs, crack & joint reinstatement
  • Moisture testing to BS 8203 / BS 5325
  • Included in every supply-and-install quote

Standalone or included in a resin flooring install

We carry out surface preparation as a standalone service for main contractors and other resin installers, and as a fully integrated phase of our own supply-and-install projects. Nationwide plant, direct labour, HEPA dust extraction and out-of-hours access as standard.

Frequently asked questions

Do you offer preparation as a standalone service?+

Yes — we're regularly booked by main contractors and other resin flooring installers to carry out the preparation phase of a project.

Which prep method does my floor need?+

Depends on substrate, resin system, coverage and site constraints. As a rule: grinding for smaller / smoother finishes, shot blasting for large open areas and heavy resins, planing for thick coatings, scabbling for PU screed prep.

Can you work around a live operation?+

Almost every project we run is on a working site. We phase installs by bay, aisle or zone, work nights and weekends where required, and specify fast-cure MMA or polyaspartic systems on jobs where a single continuous shutdown isn't possible.

Do you cover the whole UK?+

Yes. F Wilding Ltd is Essex-based but the majority of our contracts are outside the South East — London, the Midlands, the North West, Yorkshire, the North East, Wales, Scotland and the South West. Travel, accommodation and out-of-hours access are priced into every quote.
