Floor planing (milling / scarifying with flail cutters) is the most aggressive method of concrete surface preparation — used for removing thick failed coatings, reducing high spots, and taking sound concrete down where a level change is needed before a resin install. What is floor planing?
A floor planer uses rotating tungsten-carbide flail cutters mounted on a drum to aggressively remove material from the substrate. Depth of cut is adjustable from 1 mm up to 6 mm+ per pass. Extraction removes debris and dust.

Removal of thick bitumen, paint or resin coatings; high-spot reduction on out-of-tolerance slabs; localised depression for level-change details; roughening of very smooth substrates.

We carry out surface preparation as a standalone service for main contractors and other resin installers, and as a fully integrated phase of our own supply-and-install projects. Nationwide plant, direct labour, HEPA dust extraction and out-of-hours access as standard.
Frequently asked questions
When would you plane rather than grind?+
Where there's a thick coating (>1 mm) that would clog grinding tooling, or where a level reduction is required. Planing is followed by a fine grind to prep for resin.
Can you work around a live operation?+
Almost every project we run is on a working site. We phase installs by bay, aisle or zone, work nights and weekends where required, and specify fast-cure MMA or polyaspartic systems on jobs where a single continuous shutdown isn't possible.
Do you cover the whole UK?+
Yes. F Wilding Ltd is Essex-based but the majority of our contracts are outside the South East — London, the Midlands, the North West, Yorkshire, the North East, Wales, Scotland and the South West. Travel, accommodation and out-of-hours access are priced into every quote.
