Resin Floor Surveys — Free, Detailed Pre-Installation Site Surveys

A resin floor is only as good as the survey that specified it. Every failure we're called to repair comes back to one of three things: the wrong system for the traffic, inadequate substrate preparation, or moisture rising through a slab that was never tested. F Wilding Ltd carries out free, detailed pre-installation resin floor surveys anywhere in the UK — so the specification we quote is one we can stand behind.

What our survey covers

Our surveyor spends time on site, not five minutes with a clipboard. We assess the existing floor build-up, take moisture readings, check flatness (SR1/SR2/SR3), inspect drainage and coving details, identify expansion and construction joints, look for oil contamination and rising damp, and discuss the operational reality with the client — traffic types, cleaning regime, chemical exposure, downtime windows.

  • Substrate identification & core samples where necessary
  • Concrete moisture testing (hygrometer / RH probe)
  • Slab flatness assessment against SR requirements
  • Existing coating identification & bond testing
  • Drainage, coving and threshold detailing
  • Joint & crack mapping
  • Traffic, chemical & cleaning-regime review

The specification you receive

After the survey you get a written specification — the resin system recommended, the substrate preparation required, primer choice, coat build-up, thickness, colour, anti-slip provision, coving, line marking, and any remedial work. Alongside the spec you get a fixed-price quote and a programme showing how the installation fits into your operational windows. If we recommend against installing (e.g. because the substrate needs replacing first) we say so.

Why moisture testing matters

Excess moisture in a concrete slab is the single most common cause of resin floor failure. A slab that reads above 75% RH will blow a standard epoxy off within months. On any slab where we have doubts — new-build slabs less than six months old, ground-bearing slabs without a DPM, floors that have flooded — we take RH readings and specify an epoxy DPM primer where required. This is included in the survey at no cost.

Frequently asked questions

Is the survey really free?+

Yes — no charge, no obligation. We'll only survey sites where a resin flooring installation is realistically on the cards, but we don't charge for the visit, the report or the quote.

How long does the survey take?+

Typically 1–3 hours on site depending on floor area, followed by a written report within one working day.

Can you survey a project that's still in design stage?+

Yes — we regularly work with architects, main contractors and QSs on pre-tender specification advice. Get in touch as early as possible; the earlier we're involved the more we can help.

Do you cover the whole UK?+

Yes. F Wilding Ltd is Essex-based but the majority of our contracts are outside the South East — London, the Midlands, the North West, Yorkshire, the North East, Wales, Scotland and the South West. Travel, accommodation and out-of-hours access are priced into every quote.
